Pure Tone Audiometry
Pure tone audiometry (PTA) is a fundamental test in audiology used to assess an individual's hearing sensitivity across a range of frequencies. This test helps in determining the type and degree of hearing loss.
Purpose of Pure Tone Audiometry
To establish a hearing threshold for different frequencies.
To identify the presence and type of hearing loss.
To assist in the selection and fitting of hearing aids.
To monitor changes in hearing over time.
In addition to routine hearing assessments, our clinic offers a range of specialized audiology tests that provide deeper insights into hearing health and auditory function. These tests help our audiologists identify the exact nature and extent of hearing difficulties, ensuring accurate diagnosis and the best possible treatment plan.
Some of the special tests we offer include:
Tone Decay Test (TDT) – This test checks how well the auditory nerve can sustain a sound over time. It helps in detecting issues related to the inner ear or the auditory nerve, especially in cases of suspected nerve-related hearing loss.
Alternate Binaural Loudness Balance (ABLB) – This test compares how sound is perceived between the two ears. It helps in identifying cochlear (inner ear) damage and is particularly useful in assessing differences in hearing between both ears.
Short Increment Sensitivity Index (SISI) – This test measures the ability to detect very small changes in sound intensity. It is useful in distinguishing between cochlear (inner ear) and non-cochlear causes of hearing loss.
